Test coils used in solenoid and magnetometric measurement of short specimens of hard and feebly magnetic materials are optimized to achieve a moment detection uniformity of 0.1% in the test volume. As a result, the volume averaged magnetization in a specimen magnetized by a uniform applied field can be obtained correctly, from which the volume averaged field can be properly obtained by demagnetizing correction using accurately calculated magnetometric demagnetizing factor. A coaxial concentric test coil and a parallel test coil best meet the requirements for hard and feebly magnetic measurements, respectively.
