Quasiequilibrium systems, exhibiting only local equilibrium, can be represented as a collection of sub-systems that remain infinitely close to equilibrium. Such a methodological attitude is particularly well-motivated for gravity-dominated systems. Here we explore the consequences of quasiequilibrium states on two theoretical conditions of interest in astrophysics, namely the Chandrasekhar condition for the stability of a star and the Gamow condition for nuclear fusion to take place in star interiors.
