This paper reports the effect of partial open on natural convection of CNT–water-based nanofluid in a square cavity with the presence of magnetic field. The impact of partial open can be analyzed by three different cases such as left, middle, and right opening positions of the top adiabatic wall. The governed unsteady non-dimensional PDE equations are solved by SIMPLE algorithm with finite volume method. From the obtained computational results, the flow and temperature fields are visualized through streamlines and isothermal contours and the heat transfer rate is scrutinized via average Nusselt number. In addition, the increasing rate of heat transfer rate with solid volume fraction are analyzed by slop of linear regression method. It is found that the effect of partial open on the heat transfer rate is insignificant with the position of open.
