The small amplitude Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) and modified KdV (mKdV) dust ion-acoustic (DIA) solitons have been investigated by means of the reductive perturbation method in plasmas consisting of singly charged ions, regularized kappa distributed electrons and negatively charged dust grains. The effects of spectral index , cutoff parameter
and the electron concentration
on the properties of DIA solitons are studied. It is shown there can be compressive as well as rarefactive KdV DIA solitons, which depends on electron distribution parameter and the electron concentration. As to the mKdV DIA soliton, it can only exist in a certain electron concentration which is determined by
and
. The results obtained are valid in the whole range
, overcoming the deficiency that
should be larger than 1.5 for the standard kappa distribution. The present investigation may be useful in the understanding of the properties of localized nonlinear electrostatic structure arising in space dusty plasma.
