The contemporary study attempts to determine the stress intensity factor (SIF) for the propagation of a localized, semi-infinite crack brought on by the SH wave propagation in an irregular orthotropic magnetoelastic framework under different loading circumstances. The proposed mathematical method allows the incorporation of the Wiener–Hopf technique, the Fourier integral transform (FIT), the Liouville–Abel theorem, Inverse Laplace transform, and other relevant concepts. The influence of relevant parameters including magnetoelastic coupling parameter, irregularity parameter, dimensionless strip width, crack length and crack speed on SIF has been deciphered employing numerical simulations and graphical illustration. Concentrated and arbitrary loading have been considered as particular cases of the present research work, in addition, some special cases of the problem have also been discussed to validate with previous findings. Crack speed and crack length are found to be positively and negatively correlated with SIF, respectively. The prominent results presented in the manuscript reveal that irregularity is yet another factor affecting crack growth and has a substantial outcome on the SIF, which has not been taken into consideration in any existing literature. The current study aids in the investigation of structural and reliability analysis, fracture propagation, and material durability.
