Motivated by the growing interest in complex plasmas, we consider the electromagnetic waves propagation in dusty plasmas where the dispersive effect undergone by the propagating photon A in such a medium is investigated. In particular, by making contact with quantum field theory we determine the acquired tiny photon mass from the underlying Higgs-like electron density background field in terms of the involved parameters and known constants
. Such a photonic mass could be relevant for theories dealing with dark matter and dark energy problems since it can be influenced by gravitational interactions while traveling inside the cosmic plasma media.
