In the latest version of ISO 4037–1:2019 standard, the irradiation facility of a gamma radiation emitted by radionuclides is required to be collimated geometry installation. However, there is no clear requirements to determine the dimension of a minimum standard radiation field in the standard. Under the application demand of a movable gamma reference radiation, this paper presents the Monte Carlo simulation study on the gamma radiation field generated by collimated geometry installation with 1 Ci Co-60 and 1 Ci Cs-137 respectively. The distributions of dose rates and energy in the field were simulated in detail with the change of the reference radiation physical dimension. According to the work, the boundary dimension of the radiation field is obtained under the requirement that the influence of scattered photons in the radiation field shall not exceed 5%. This paper establishes and perfects the research methods and related standard details of the minimum dimension of the gamma reference radiation field, which provides reference data for the design of the irradiation room under the collimated radiation state.
