Compact neutron sources are used to promote neutron science as they can be used for studies relevant to the own interests of a researcher, and they are most suitable for educational purposes, trial use by beginners, test experiments, and challenging measurements. This type of activities supports researches at a large facility. Japan collaboration of accelerator-driven neutron sources (JCANS), which is a network of accelerator-driven neutron sources, is organized to activate a nation-wide network of individual research activities on neutron sources and practical neutron beam technologies for application in science and industry. This network promotes a collaborative work to construct neutron sources and use them in science and industry fields.
