EPJ Plus Focus Point Issue: Citizen science for physics: From Education and Outreach to Crowdsourcing fundamental research

Citizen Science encompasses a broad range of activities, from science education and outreach to the actual harnessing of crowdsourcing to conduct state-of-the-art research in all sciences.

The present focus point is intended as both a review and advancement of current and future such activities in the field of core physics and related disciplines, as covered in the journal’s aims-and-scope. In particular, this article collection wishes to thoroughly explore - and act as incentive to foster - the contribution of citizen science to advancing science and how to design ongoing and future research projects to this aim.

Invited are the following type of contributions:

  • Reviews, reports and case studies that qualitatively and quantitatively highlight the part that crowdsourcing has played in advancing the scientific aspects of a state-of-the-art research project
  • Original articles that demonstrate in technical detail how existing or future scientific projects would benefit from crowdsourcing in terms of scientific endeavor and results, and how to achieve this by suitable designing the research project (e.g. by gamification of subparts of a work package or of a research phase)

For both types of contribution, the potential value of such projects in terms of increasing scientific awareness among the general public would be a valuable complementary aspect.

Manuscripts should be prepared following the instructions for authors. A special latex template is available here. Authors should submit their article to the Editorial Office of EPJ Plus via the submission system at http://www.editorialmanager.com/epjp by replying "yes" to the question 'Are you submitting this manuscript following an invitation to contribute to a "focus point" (topical article collection by invitation of guest editors)?' and then selecting “FP: Citizen science for physics: From Education and Outreach to Crowdsourcing fundamental research".

Deadline for submissions: 31 December 2023. Suitable papers will be published if and as soon as accepted.

The typing and the arrangement of tables and figures are perfect. Also, corrections to English and bibliography were appropriate. All together there is no correction to be made and I thank you for the excellent work. I would also thank you for the kind promptness in delivering the proofs.
